I want to take the opportunity to say that your skull study for Pierce was interesting (I'm sort of a biology geek). It makes me want to do something similar. In the meantime, I did have a few things I wanted to mention (since you asked for suggestions about his design)... I'll have to type that up for you later when I have more time.
Ooh, that would be so helpful if you can! ;A; And grateful! And I'll be patient for this~
Man, I wish I didn't take Bio online. I very much disliked it. I wanted to get a lot out of it, but somehow it was hard to concentrate.. maybe because it lacked an actual teacher. 8C Oh well, I'll take it again in College.
I know what you're saying. I took a psychology course online and hated it... I thought the topic was fascinating, but I wasn't getting much out of it.
So! I have some minutes. A couple of things that strike me about Pierce are:
1.) His fur patterning doesn't make much natural sense, tbh. All of his fur seems to be one consistent length, and it stops abruptly, leaving patches of baldness. It seems as if this has been purposefully orchestrated to reveal the human aspects you find appealing--his face, his torso--while obscuring the indecent parts--his genitals, rear, etc. This can still be done, but with regards to more natural fur distribution... Varying lengths, thinning and receding as opposed to abrupt baldness. It looks like someone took a buzzer to him. I'd suggest using some of the animals and supernatural creatures that remind you of him as a reference and point of inspiration.
2.) Where his wing membranes intersect with his torso always seemed rather awkward to me. The way you depict this transition, it looks as if the membranes are an additional material stretched and torn over his torso. One should bear in mind that skin and membrane are a united organ, and there should be a subtle transition of color there. It should be a smooth gradition, or, if you're fond of the somewhat "stripy" appearance, this could still be done. Again, I suggest looking at animals.
I have been thinking a lot about his fur, actually, though not enough to the point where I got it down on paper. These are very good points. Hmm, I'll have to play with his fur and see what happens, especially with the length and making it seem like it's more part of his body. I'm still debating if I want his fur soft or rugged... though I think rugged/rough would work better.
I... have not thought about that. D8 That's a really good idea, and I can now picture it in my head. The only thing I had been thinking about was taking away the black lines because it just looked like his wings could rip off. AHH, now I really want to work on that now.
Thanks so much for pointing these things out for me. T^T I now have to see if I can pull these off.
One big question I have been having is if I'm putting the shoulders of his wings on the right place. Still feels like they wouldn't be able to have much motion because of his original shoulders... hmm... do you have any suggestions? Because I have tried many things, and even now/today, I drew it out again, but still doesn't look good to me/works. 8C
No problem. I'll be interested to see what comes out.
Regarding the wings, I'm not sure, myself. That's something I'm still trying to work out on my own. If I come up with an anatomical formula that works (and doesn't look hideous), I'll let you know. Here's my working idea, though... perhaps you can give me your thoughts: You know how the femur is adjoined to the pelvis by a ball point? I was thinking of doing something much the same with the humerus of the wing "arm" adjoining to the anterior of the scapula via another ball joint. I'm skeptical about the mechanics of this, though... After all, the pelvis is stationary, whereas the scapula has a range of motion. :/
I have been looking at animal fur and whatnot.. but where do you think it would be best for me to put long and short fur on him? I still can't see it. x'D
Hmm, yeah, that sounds a little hard to do. If only there were an animal like what we need. But, there might be a reason for this, I guess. :/ Might not be possible at all... we just may have to make it look possible, though it isn't. I'm going to think more on this as well. >_<
